The ocean is a place where reality and allegory converge. In Current Affairs (2014), I try to replicate the ocean’s dual nature to humans by photographing a symbolic setting that is physically interacted with. The overlapping of the materials may replicate the waves that conceal an unknown while a human body assumes gestures through them. In this sense, the work can cast the ocean as both a literal and proverbial place for experience.
Current Affairs was created for the Deep Oceans exhibition at the Queensland Museum for National Science Week. The art works were shown in an exhibition called Café Scientifique: Underwater Wanderlust from 18 August – 31 October 2014.
