Current Affairs

Current Affairs (2014)

Current Affairs (2014) was created for the Deep Oceans exhibition at the Queensland Museum for National Science Week. The series responds to the role of the ocean to human affairs and was shown in an exhibition called Café Scientifique: Underwater Wanderlust at the Queensland Museum from 18 August – 31 October 2014.

In Current Affairs, the artist attempts to express a duality in our understanding of the ocean. The overlapping of the materials replicate ocean waves while a human body assumes gestures through them. In this sense, the work can cast the ocean as both a literal and proverbial place for experience. In other words, the ocean is a place where reality and fantasy converge.
